OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 02/15/2022, Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a disturbance call at the Ellenton Premium Outlets at 5461 Factory Shops Boulevard. Deputies encountered 50-year-old Gregory Donnell Smalls in the parking lot area during the response. Authorities reported that Smalls was armed and that deputies discharged their firearms during the encounter, striking and killing him at the location. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement assumed control of the investigation into the deputy-involved shooting.
