On 02/23/2022, Birmingham Police Department officers investigating a call in the 4300 block of Morris Avenue North encountered Keleen Rashad Connell and an altercation occurred. Police said Connell ran and officers chased him on foot before an officer discharged a firearm, killing Connell at the location. Connell was reported as a Vestavia Hills resident. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Bureau of Investigation took over the officer involved shooting investigation at Birmingham police request, and local community organizers publicly called for more information and transparency about what happened.
