On 03/03/2022, Thornton Police Department officers responded to the 7000 block of 120th Avenue for a reported disturbance involving an adult man. Officers attempted contact and the situation escalated into a prolonged standoff with negotiations. During the standoff, police reported the man fired at officers. Officers opened fire. According to the Adams County autopsy, the man died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. The autopsy also documented a gunshot wound to his foot caused by an officer’s round. Authorities did not release his name in initial reporting.
