OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 03/12/2022, Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a residence on Edgemont Acres Road in Sonora after reports of gunfire and a barricaded man. Deputies evacuated nearby homes and established a perimeter. According to authorities, Fred Westmoreland fired shots during the incident from inside the residence. Deputies returned fire during the confrontation and shot him. Westmoreland was pronounced dead at the scene. The California Department of Justice responded and assumed investigative authority over the shooting.
