On 03/17/2022, Knoxville Police Department officers attempted to stop Bryan Michael Hurst near Interstate 40 and James White Parkway. Hurst continued driving and officers escalated a pursuit. Police chased the vehicle through the area before the pursuit ended when Hurst’s vehicle crashed. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation responded and opened an independent investigation into the incident.
