On 03/31/2022, Joplin Police Department officers surrounded a residence at 2201 S Empire Ave while investigating the fatal shooting of another man. Officers established a perimeter and attempted contact with James A. Weiss Jr. During the standoff, officers reported hearing a gunshot from inside the residence. Police later entered and found Weiss dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities conducted a multi agency investigation into the incident.
