On 04/09/2022, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to County Road 2108 near Rusk after receiving reports of an armed man outside a residence. Deputies located Scott Coe at the scene and engaged him outside the home. According to reporting, Coe displayed a firearm during the encounter. Deputies opened fire and shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Texas Rangers conducted the investigation into the shooting.
