On 04/18/2022, Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers attempted to stop a vehicle near the intersection of US-67 and US-60 in Poplar Bluff. Troopers approached the vehicle during the stop. Troopers opened fire during the encounter and struck Jeffrey Carter Jr, who died at the scene. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control led the investigation into the shooting.
