On 04/27/2022, Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic disturbance near Filmore Street and Blanding Boulevard in Lakeside. Deputies encountered Daniel Palato during the response. Deputies fired their weapons and shot Palato, killing him at the scene. Authorities later stated that Palato did not have a gun. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement opened an investigation into the shooting.
