On 05/02/2022, Petersburg Police Department officers went to the 1200 block of Grant Avenue after receiving reports of an armed man. Officers encountered Christopher Bowen during the response. Authorities reported that Bowen was holding a firearm. Officers fired their weapons and shot Bowen. He died at the scene. Virginia State Police took over the investigation. Reporting later identified Bowen as 38 years old.
