On 05/24/2022, law enforcement responded to Robb Elementary School at 715 Old Carrizo Road after Salvador Rolando Ramos, 18, entered the campus armed with a rifle and began shooting inside connected fourth-grade classrooms. Nineteen children and two teachers were killed. Officers from Uvalde CISD Police initially entered the building and retreated after gunfire. Multiple agencies, including Texas DPS and U.S. Border Patrol tactical agents, responded and remained in the hallway for more than an hour while students and teachers were trapped inside. A U.S. Border Patrol BORTAC team ultimately breached the classroom door and opened fire, killing Ramos. Subsequent state and federal reviews sharply criticized the delayed law enforcement response, command failures, and breakdown in communication.
