On 06/12/2022, Hudson Police Department officers attempted to stop a vehicle near US 321 and Mission Road. The driver, identified as Jerome Connelly, 36, did not stop. Police chased the vehicle along US 321. During the pursuit, Connelly exited the vehicle while holding a firearm, according to investigators. Officers opened fire and shot him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation assumed control of the independent investigation into the shooting.
