On 06/20/2022, Fairbanks Police Department officers responded to reports of a man firing a weapon near 23rd Avenue and South Cushman Street in Fairbanks. According to police statements, officers located Amos Lane and reported that he was armed with a firearm. Police said Lane fired shots during the encounter. Officers opened fire, striking him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm was recovered. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation under the Alaska Department of Public Safety conducted the independent investigation. Follow-up reporting identified Lane as 36 years old and described him as Black. Public reporting reviewed did not identify any civil lawsuit connected to the shooting.
