OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/05/2022, Aurora Police Department officers responded to a reported structure fire at the Ranger Motel at 11220 E Colfax Ave. During the response, officers encountered an adult male inside a motel room and police stated he had a gun. Officers established a perimeter and negotiators worked for approximately one hour. Police reported the man exited the room holding a firearm and officers opened fire. He was transported to a hospital with critical injuries and later died. The 18th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team conducted the investigation. Initial reporting did not publicly release the man’s name.
