OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/12/2022, Athens-Clarke County Police Department officers went to a residence on Forest Road around 8:00 a.m. to serve a search warrant related to a child exploitation investigation. Police reported that 66-year-old Richard King had a gun when officers arrived. Officers attempted negotiation and de-escalation. During the encounter, King shot himself inside the residence. He was pronounced dead at the home. The Athens-Clarke County Police Department requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to conduct the independent investigation.
