On 07/29/2022, officers with the Sterling Heights Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance involving a man experiencing a mental health crisis at a residence on Aqua Lane.
According to police, officers encountered 55-year-old Michael Joseph Brooks inside the home. Authorities stated that Brooks was armed with a knife and did not comply with repeated commands to drop it. Officers fired their weapons, striking Brooks.
Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene. The Michigan State Police conducted the independent investigation into the shooting, and its findings were submitted to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office for review.
