On 08/20/2022, Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies executed a search warrant at 15266 Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon following an investigation into alleged threats against law enforcement. A prolonged standoff developed that lasted several hours. Deputies fired at Randy A. Wilhelm outside the residence during the encounter and killed him. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation reviewed the shooting.
