OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/28/2022, 50-year-old Jerome Bernard Mouzone died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after Florence Police Department officers responded to Sedgefield Apartments on Valparaiso Drive and police surrounded an apartment where Mouzone had barricaded himself. Police said Mouzone had just shot and killed 47-year-old Tamika McGray. The incident developed into a barricade involving the Florence Police Department Emergency Response Team and the Florence County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team.
Police were called to the apartment complex at approximately 7 p.m. after McGray was shot. Officers found her suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and she died at the scene. As police investigated, they identified Mouzone as the person they believed had shot her.
Mouzone went into a nearby apartment and barricaded himself as police established a perimeter. Florence police brought in their Emergency Response Team, while the Florence County Sheriff’s Office deployed its SWAT Team to assist.
