Montgomery police officers who were searching for a wanted person spotted two males standing at the passenger’s side of an SUV at the Express Inn East hotel conducting a small drug deal. Two males got into a Nissan Altima with a paper tag. Officers activated their lights and sirens and the Altima sped up. Police escalated a chase to 90 to 100 mph at what point police claim that they “called off the chase” just as the vehicle was about to crash. Grants PD officers were chasing a 31-year-old man who was seen speeding the wrong way. During the pursuit, he hit 3 vehicles, killing 2 third party motorists, critically injuring 2 children.
A 34-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman in one of the third party vehicles died on impact. Two young girls aged 10 and 6, identified as the male victim’s daughters, were rushed to an Albuquerque hospital in critical condition.
