On 09/06/2022, Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies initiated a traffic stop in Lawrenceburg around 8:00 p.m. involving 32-year-old Zackery James Cadeau. Deputies determined Cadeau had a gun and ordered him to exit the vehicle. He drove away, beginning a pursuit that covered approximately five miles. During an attempt to remove him from the vehicle, Cadeau accelerated again and made slight contact with a deputy, who was not seriously injured. After the pursuit ended, deputies exited their vehicles and ordered Cadeau to surrender. Body camera footage captured Cadeau holding a handgun to his head while deputies pleaded with him to put the gun down. Cadeau fired the weapon at himself. Deputies immediately called for medical assistance and began CPR. He was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. Reporting indicates deputies did not discharge their firearms during the incident. Cadeau had previously been sentenced in Michigan in 2009 on a home invasion conviction and was paroled in May 2022.

On 09/01/2022, Belton Police Department officers responded around 12:45 p.m. to a reported disturbance at a residence in the 500 block of Hargis Lane involving a man who had a gun. A woman exited the residence before officers arrived and was secured by police. Officers encountered the man outside in the roadway and established a perimeter. On 08/29/2022, Walker J. Porretto shot and killed 18-year-old Redha Sayed and injured her sister at a residence near Friendswood in Harris County. Law enforcement identified Porretto as the shooter and began searching for him. On 08/30/2022, members of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit located him inside a vehicle parked near Interstate 45 North in Willis. As deputies approached the vehicle to take him into custody, Porretto shot himself. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition and later died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound.
