On 08/29/2022, police responded to a shooting at the Sedgefield Apartments on Valparaiso Drive in Florence, South Carolina after a report that a woman had been shot multiple times. The shooter, identified as Jerome Bernard Mouzone, barricaded himself inside an apartment as law enforcement set up a heavy police presence with SWAT and other units. During the standoff, Mouzone died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
