OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 09/01/2022, Belton Police Department officers responded around 12:45 p.m. to a reported disturbance at a residence in the 500 block of Hargis Lane involving a man who had a gun. A woman exited the residence before officers arrived and was secured by police. Officers encountered the man outside in the roadway and established a perimeter. Nearby Gladden Elementary School was placed on precautionary lockdown while officers negotiated with him for several hours. Shortly after 6:00 p.m., during the standoff, the man shot himself. He was transported to a hospital where he later died from his injury.
