OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 09/24/2022, North Las Vegas police responded to a 911 call about a man in the backyard of a home in the 4300 block of Westmere Avenue who was acting erratically and appeared to be trying to break into the house. Officers arrived shortly after the call and located 38-year-old Darin Matthew Paul Dyer armed with a rifle. According to police, Dyer behaved aggressively and challenged a neighbor before officers engaged. At about 10:30 p.m., shots were fired and Dyer sustained at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to University Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. The North Las Vegas Police Department placed the officer involved, Sergeant Paul Sanderson, on administrative leave as part of standard procedure. The Clark County Coroner’s Office later ruled the death a homicide.
