On 10/05/2025, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputy Samuel Camarena Cruz was speeding on Santa Rosa Avenue while responding to a separate pursuit when his patrol vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by 78-year-old Robert Cydear as Cydear pulled out of a parking lot. Both drivers were transported to the hospital and Cydear suffered major injuries. The crash closed part of Santa Rosa Avenue for several hours. Eighteen days later, around 10/23/2025, Cydear died from injuries sustained in the collision. His death was later confirmed in February 2026 reporting.
