OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 10/09/2022, a McIntosh County Sheriff’s deputy initiated a traffic stop for a traffic violation. The driver continued driving and deputies escalated a pursuit north on Highway 69 and west on Interstate 40 with assistance from the Checotah Police Department. During the pursuit, the driver struck law enforcement vehicles and left the roadway. After stopping near mile marker 260, the driver exited the vehicle and fired a gun toward officers. Deputies and police officers opened fire and struck the driver. He died from gunshot wounds. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
