OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 10/12/2022, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted a traffic stop in the eastern panhandle. The driver, Austin Michael Roher of Leetown, continued driving and deputies escalated a pursuit that reached speeds exceeding 110 mph across Berkeley and Jefferson counties. The pursuit ended near County Route 1 in Inwood when the vehicle stopped. Roher exited and shot himself. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
