On 11/15/2022, the West Columbia Police Department responded to a report of a domestic-related shooting in the 300 block of Westgate Drive. Officers arriving on the call found evidence of gunfire and a female victim with gunshot injuries, who was transported to a hospital with serious wounds. As law enforcement attempted to contact a man inside the residence, a standoff ensued. Investigators later determined that 24-year-old John Thompson Greene had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during the police response and standoff. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
