On 12/02/2022, law enforcement in Jennings County engaged in a prolonged standoff with Cory Duane Jenkins, who was wanted on multiple felony warrants and believed to be armed inside a rural residence near North County Road 550 W and 200 S. Authorities had been negotiating with Jenkins for several hours after he allegedly held family members inside the home. Shortly after noon, Jenkins fatally shot himself inside the residence while police were actively engaged in efforts to resolve the situation. The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana State Police investigated the standoff and Jenkins’ death as a suicide occurring during the law enforcement response.
