OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 12/06/2022, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper responded to reports of an erratically driven blue Hyundai traveling southbound on Interstate 75 near State Road 681 in Sarasota County. When the trooper located the vehicle and initiated contact, the driver exited the vehicle with a firearm. The man then shot himself in the grassy median of the interstate while the trooper was present. No shots were fired by law enforcement. The man died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene. Traffic lanes were temporarily closed during the investigation.
