OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 12/26/2023, Monroeville Police Department officers responded to a residence on Ash Lane in the Eastwood Estates subdivision after receiving reports that Thomas McMillian, 52, had fired into an occupied dwelling. Officers encountered McMillian and he fired at them before barricading himself inside the residence. A multi-hour standoff followed as additional agencies, including the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, responded. McMillian later exited the residence holding a firearm and became involved in an exchange of gunfire with officers. Officers shot McMillian. He was transported to Monroeville Hospital where he died. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation opened an investigation into the shooting.
