Police allege that the passenger Deandre Houston “pulled an object from his waistband” and jumped over a fence. Police shot and killed him as he was jumping. Police later admitted that they shot the wrong man and that the warrant was for the driver, not passenger Leandre Houston whom they killed. Police allege that they found a gun somewhere nearby the body. Police did not answer the question whether that was Houston’s gun and whether he had actually used it.
The warrant against the driver was for a previous unlawful weapons possession. Police made no accusations against Leandre Houston and it appears that he was not accused of anything when he was killed except possibly fear of police.
This was the 16th shooting this year by Indianapolis Metro PD.

Grafton PD saw Christopher Sewell and recognized him as he had outstanding warrants for allegedly forcing entry into a home nearby days prior. He did not stop and police escalated a chase, put down spike strips to puncture his tires. After he came to a stop, he ran on foot into a tree line and officer Michael Zilke fired at him repeatedly, killing him, alleging that he had shown a gun. No bodycam or objective evidence has been presented so far.
