OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 12/23/2023, Asbury Police responded to a residence after reports of a man with a gun making “red flag statements.” Officers encountered the man, who pointed a firearm toward police and barricaded himself inside. Negotiators from the Iowa State Patrol attempted communication for several hours. The Iowa State Patrol Tactical Team bore down on the residence and deployed flashbang devices and tear gas in and around the residence. Officers later forced entry into the home. The man was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No exchange of gunfire between officers and the subject was reported. His identity was withheld by police.
