OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 09/14/2023, Eugene Police responded to an incident at the Viking Condominiums on Coburg Rd. During the encounter, Lucas Jansma took a handgun from an officer’s holster and shot the officer in the buttocks. Officers confronted Jansma and opened fire, striking him in the head. He died from gunshot wounds. The officer survived the gunshot injury. Reporting confirmed one handgun involved and stated the firearm used by Jansma was the officer’s service weapon taken during the confrontation.
