On 08/30/2023, Cedar Rapids police officers went to the Inn Circle apartments at 5560 6th Street SW to serve warrants on 22-year-old William Isaac Rich. Officers located Rich at the complex and attempted to take him into custody. During the encounter, police reported that Rich had a firearm. Officers opened fire and struck him. He died from gunshot wounds. Authorities reported one firearm was involved. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation reviewed the shooting.
