On 08/29/2023, law-enforcement officers established a large perimeter in the 6300 block of West Hampden Avenue in southwest Denver while attempting to locate and contact a person wanted on a warrant. The operation centered on The Modern Apartments at 6301 West Hampden Avenue, near South Ivan Court.

Denver police publicly alerted residents shortly before 6:00 a.m. to expect a large police presence while officers attempted to contact the wanted person. Residents reported that police had blocked access to several apartment complexes beginning at approximately 4:30 a.m., preventing some residents from entering or leaving the area.

Although Denver Police Department officers assisted with the operation and initially issued the public alert, a Denver police spokesperson subsequently clarified that the Aurora Police Department was the lead agency in the warrant operation. The police perimeter remained in place for several hours and the roadway reopened at approximately 8:50 a.m.

The person police were attempting to apprehend died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during the police operation.
