OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/25/2023, Blount County deputies responded to a shooting at a home on Quarry Hollow Road in Friendsville following an argument inside the residence. Jeffrey “Scott” West, 68, shot 24-year-old Kyle Spitze, who sustained injuries and survived. Deputies responded and West barricaded himself inside the home while armed. Officers established a perimeter and initiated a standoff. During the confrontation with law enforcement outside, West shot himself. He died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the incident.
