On 08/25/2023, law enforcement officers responded to an incident near Mile Marker 11 on NV-446 in Nixon, Nevada, within the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe reservation. Authorities reported that Nolan Ray, 33, struck Tribal Police Officer Anthony J. Francone with a vehicle. Officer Francone died from his injuries. During the confrontation that followed, officers opened fire and struck Ray. He died from gunshot wounds. Authorities reported one firearm was involved in the incident. The FBI assumed control of the investigation due to the death of the tribal officer.
