OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/09/2023, Bellefontaine police officers responded to 547 East Columbus Avenue to locate Kyle Richardson, 21, who was wanted on outstanding warrants. Officers surrounded the apartment and initiated a prolonged standoff while Richardson remained inside. Police deployed resources and attempted to negotiate his surrender. During the standoff, Richardson shot himself inside the apartment. He died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities reported one handgun was involved, which investigators later identified as stolen. The Bellefontaine Police Department is reviewing the incident.
