On 07/23/2023, law enforcement sought Joshua Paul Thompson in connection with a reported domestic violence incident and alleged kidnapping in central Iowa. Authorities located his vehicle in southeast Iowa and initiated a pursuit involving the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol. Police deployed stop sticks to disable the vehicle near Burlington. After the vehicle came to a stop, officers approached and found Thompson inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward. The woman involved in the reported domestic incident was located safely.
