On 07/16/2023, police responded to a domestic violence incident that escalated into a rolling shooting beginning in Blandon and continuing through Reading. Authorities reported that 38-year-old Larry L. Bidelspach III fired a handgun at a woman during the vehicle chase. The pursuit ended when the vehicles stopped in the parking lot of the Leesport Diner at 5407 Pottsville Pike. As officers approached, Bidelspach shot the woman again and then shot himself. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The woman survived and was transported for medical treatment. Police secured the scene and recovered the handgun.
