OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 11/22/2023, Victoria police conducted a traffic stop in the 900 block of Ball Airport Road as part of an ongoing investigation into a missing person case. Officers attempted to reinterview Kevin Bennetsen, who was believed to have information related to the disappearance. During the stop, before officers made physical contact, Bennetsen shot himself inside the vehicle and died from the self inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities confirmed the death was not caused by police gunfire and occurred while officers were attempting to question him in connection with the missing woman investigation. Investigators later documented that the suicide occurred during the traffic stop around midday and was directly connected to the ongoing case.
