On 11/14/2023, a Butte-Silver Bow police officer conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of South Montana Street. During the stop, the male driver remained inside the vehicle while the officer approached. Authorities reported the man produced a firearm and shot himself while seated in the vehicle. Officers secured the area and emergency personnel responded, but he was pronounced dead from the self inflicted gunshot wound. Officials confirmed the fatal injury was not caused by police gunfire and occurred during the traffic stop.
