OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 10/11/2023, Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported domestic situation on SE Benchmark Dr in Lee. During the response, deputies exchanged gunfire with the man involved and struck him. He retreated back inside the residence while deputies maintained containment. While law enforcement remained present and the standoff conditions continued, the man shot himself and died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Reporting indicates one handgun involved.
