On 09/24/2023, Phoenix Police attempted a traffic stop near 51st Ave and Buckeye Rd. The driver fled, leading officers on a vehicle pursuit that transitioned into a foot pursuit. During the confrontation, the man fired at officers. While officers maintained active pursuit and containment, the man shot himself at the end of the encounter and died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. Reporting described one firearm involved and confirmed the death occurred during the active law enforcement response.
