On 05/23/2023, Columbia Police officers responded to Forest Village Apartments at 3001 S Providence Rd while investigating a homicide from the previous day. Officers located a 32-year-old man believed to be connected to that case. Police attempted to make contact with him inside an apartment. During the encounter, the man shot himself. Officers did not shoot him. He died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities stated he was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
