OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/28/2022 at approximately 4:10 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety troopers attempted a traffic stop on a 2007 Lexus RX 350 driven by 40-year-old Isabel Hernandez on Interstate 40 near Wildorado. Hernandez refused to stop and a pursuit ensued, with the vehicle continuing eastbound for about 14 miles. The chase continued onto Bushland Road where Hernandez exited I-40 and failed to obey a stop sign at the intersection of Bushland Road and the I-40 service road. The Lexus crashed into two other vehicles — a Chevrolet Tahoe and a Chevrolet Suburban — at that intersection. Hernandez’s vehicle rolled multiple times; she and a passenger, 31-year-old Adriana Velasquez, were pronounced dead at the scene. Multiple other occupants and drivers of involved vehicles were transported to hospitals with injuries. Texas DPS officials investigated the crash as pursuit-related. The event did not involve firearm use; the deaths resulted from the high-speed chase and subsequent multi-vehicle collision.
