On 09/25/2023, Miami-Dade Police pursued a vehicle connected to a carjacking investigation that moved through the Miami area and ended near NW 12th Ave and NW 23rd St. During the pursuit and subsequent confrontation, Nicolas “Chile” Avila fired a 9mm handgun at officers. Police opened fire and struck him. He was transported for medical treatment and later died from gunshot wounds. Two other men, Adonay Rodriguez and Rolando Aguabella, were taken into custody and arrested without injury following the incident.
