On 07/20/2025, California Highway Patrol Officer Angelo Rodriguez drove about 130 mph in Norwalk without lights or sirens and rear ended a Nissan during traffic enforcement activity. The crash disabled the vehicle in traffic where a second vehicle struck it and it caught fire. Maria Garcia, a passenger in the vehicle, died from injuries sustained in the collision. Prosecutors later charged Rodriguez with second degree murder tied to the crash.
