On 07/20/2025, California Highway Patrol Officer Angelo Rodriguez drove about 130 mph in Norwalk without lights or sirens and rear ended a Nissan. The collision left the vehicle disabled in traffic and it was struck again, igniting a fire. Diego Lopez, an 8 year old passenger, died from injuries sustained in the crash. Prosecutors later charged Rodriguez with second degree murder in connection with the incident.
