OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 05/19/2024, Officer Connor Gehan of the Cobb County Police Department attempted a traffic stop on a Lexus after observing a defective headlight and a stop-sign violation. According to police, the driver, 21-year-old Boston Thomas, initially pulled over but then continued driving away, leading officers on a pursuit along Veterans Memorial Highway. During the pursuit, Officer Gehan performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver on the Lexus. The vehicle left the roadway, rolled multiple times near the Chattahoochee River, and Thomas was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead from his injuries. Thomas was the sole occupant of the vehicle. In June 2026, Thomas's parents filed a lawsuit against Cobb County alleging the pursuit and PIT maneuver violated department policy and seeking additional information about the circumstances of the crash.
