On 06/14/2025, officers with the Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety attempted to stop a vehicle after determining it had been reported stolen. The teenage driver continued driving away while police pursued. The pursuit entered the City of Jackson, where the vehicle left the roadway near Lansing Avenue and Brooklyn Road and crashed into a tree. Fifteen-year-old passenger Samuel Howard Jr. suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The teenage driver survived with injuries. I
